NY Writers Coalition (NYWC) is excited to announce the third annual NYWC Write-A-Thon. This daylong writing festival will benefit NYWC’s free, unique and powerful creative writing programs across New York City.
Sign up today and reserve your spot! It’s easy. Just click on this link and create your own personal Write-a-Thon page. Writers of all genres and levels of experience are welcome; we believe that everyone has a voice and a story, and Write-A-Thon activities are geared for everyone. You can use the day however best serves your writing needs; write on your own, participate in workshops, or receive fun and stimulating prompts from our “prompt stations.”
Like a walk-a-thon, our attendees will ask friends and family to donate in support of their day of writing. These contributions will help fund NYWC’s creative writing programs for at-risk youth, the homeless and formerly homeless, the formerly incarcerated, seniors, and many others that aren’t heard from often enough in our society. Last year, NYWC held more than 600 workshop sessions at 35 locations throughout NYC.
Once you’ve signed up, then spread the word to friends and family and ask for their support of your writing day and for NYWC. Please note that space is limited, so NYWC Write-A-Thon attendees must raise a minimum of $150 in total pledges in order to attend.
Prizes will be awarded to top pledge-getters, so set your sights high! Prizes donated so far include: $250 gift certificate at Better World Books (amazing socially conscious online bookstore); free membership to Paragraph, the awesome writing space on 14th Street; dance classes at Mark Morris Dance Center; tickets to BAM’s Fall 2008 Next Wave Festival; a poker lesson from poker pro Matt Matros (voted best poker player in NYC by the NY Press); a collection of books from Akashic Books; an astrology reading from writer/astrologer Emily Trinkaus; a tarot card reading from Madame Couer Rouge; and many more fun things!
Doors will open at 10:00 am on May 17. Write-A-Thon registrants will be supplied with writing materials, special gift bags, and light refreshments. A complimentary lunch will be also be served.
